Zotero is a reference manager: a library for every book, article, score and web page you read, and a way to cite them without retyping a bibliography ever again.
## What it does
- **Saves sources in one click.** A browser extension captures the citation details, and often the PDF, from a library catalog, journal or web page.
- **Keeps your reading in one place.** PDFs open in Zotero’s own reader, where highlights and notes stay with the source.
- **Cites for you.** Plugins for Word and Google Docs insert citations and build the bibliography in thousands of styles, Chicago and APA among them, and change style in a click.
- **Organizes flexibly.** Collections and tags let one source belong to several projects at once.
## Cost
Free and open source, developed by a nonprofit, the Corporation for Digital Scholarship. Syncing your library is free, with a small amount of free storage for files; more storage is a paid subscription, which funds the project.
