Taking inspiration from Robert Gjerdingen’s book *Music in the Galant Style* (2007), I am compiling a list of what I call *voice-leading schemata*. These schemata are brief passages in [[four-part voice leading]] style that exhibit good voice-leading principles. Unlike Gjerdingjen's "stock musical phrases," these schemata are not based exclusively on real musical examples, but rather from practical experience in the undergraduate [[music theory]] classroom to assist students with [[voice leading|part writing]].[^1] (Some of these schemata might indeed be encountered in the literature; however, I do not claim to have done any historical research regarding these patterns. Their intent is purely pedagogical.)
